 Ejen Ali ( Indonesian : Agen Ali ; English : Agent Ali , Jawi : ايجن علي) is a Malaysian animated series produced by Wau Animation , which tells the story of a boy who accidentally becomes an MATA agent after activating the Infinity Retinal Intelligence System (IRIS), a prototype device created by MATA. After the incident, Ali, Alicia, Bakar (Ali's uncle), and Comot (Ali's cat) work together on MATA's mission.

The series was published in HDTV format and was first broadcast on TV3, on April 8, 2016. Ejen Ali is the first animated series to become the intellectual property of Media Prima Berhad (MPB). ^[ 2 ]

Production

The idea for the animated series came from director and screenwriter Usamah Zaid Yasin, after founding Wau Animation in 2013. For the storyline, he and his team watched films, animated series, and read novels about spies and intelligence. The creation of Ejen Ali took two years before production began in July 2015. Regarding the name chosen for the series, Usamah said Ali is a simple name and is often used in textbooks. They were confused about choosing a simple name and finally chose Ali.

Initially, Wau Animation planned to make Ejen Ali into a feature film project, but due to difficulties in securing investment and after discussions with various parties and several inputs, they felt it would be a loss to only produce one film because the concept is so broad. The plan is for the series to be developed for at least 5 seasons, with films to follow. ^{[ 3 ] [ 4 ]}

However, they released the first movie after 2 seasons, which was released on November 28, 2019.
